80s/90s Misc Releases

Robo Strux

1984–85. Another shot at the fickle US market. A lot of people don’t like the color schemes, but I think they’re pretty sweet.

(Unnamed Mailaway)

This was an unnamed mailaway figure that I believe came out before the official release. It’s like a recolor of Terrared (OER), which itself was a version of Glidoler (OJR) with a “clamshell” head. There’s been a fella on ebay selling these—one at a time—for the past few years.

Kreep

One of my favorite designs, in a nice color scheme (I’m probably the only person on earth who likes Robo Strux colors). I got this as a replacement for the Kreep I ruined making my swap. It came covered with the entire sticker sheet for a Radox. I kept the bird ones, because they were not hideous.

Status: PROBABLY NEVER SELLING

Rado

This is identical to the OER Zark. Since I don’t have a box for this one, the only way I can be sure I have a Rado, is that I got it in a lot with a bunch of other Robostruxes, back when OERs were not widely available outside of Europe (no ebay in 1995).

I like the silver in this version. In bad news, the front section droops with age, doh!

Slithor

I’ve never thought of snails as striking fear in the hearts of men, but this one is still pretty neat.

Stang

These scorpion types are always cool looking, but if you touch them the claws will fall right off. Not very stable.

The Legend of the Brown Reptex

(Spoiler alert! It’s not real.)

Deep within the mists of time (early 2001), there was an auction of a bunch of loose Zoids and Robo Strux kits. Most were in pretty bad shape and the only picture was of the whole lot of them just laying on the scanner. And the quality/resolution: not so good. But there was a curious item—a Reptex, but with faction-switched colors! The bidding went fast and furious (there was also a Cosmozoid in the lot) and quickly reached a price beyond my funding.

A friend of mine who was also outbid ended up contacting the winner and asking about the mystery Zoid. It turns out it was just an OJR Gator that had been left in the sun. Myth: BUSTED!
