80s/90s Misc Releases

Techno Zoids

1994. Zoids in America, take 3. In 1994, Kenner released Techno Zoids. In 1995, they were on clearance shelves for as low as a dollar for windups and $3–5 for the big ones. Think about that the next time an Evil Pegasus sells on ebay for $300 or more… and weep!

Armored Gator

Another bonus from brother WIKD, thanks! Lighting was against me with these pics. The background is all weird, but the Gator’s colors are pretty spot on. Which is frightening. The upper parts do have a nice metallic sheen to them, though. I’m going to try a swap with my other ’gators, because I think either of this one’s colors would work with a more neutral one to contrast.

Demon Lizard

I got this when it came out, way back in 1994! Identical to the OJR Heldigunner, except that DL doesn’t glow in the dark. I got an NJR Heldi in 1999, and within half a year of display, the rubber hoses were broken in many places. I saw on a Japanese site where someone had replaced them with coilsprings, and thus was inspired… to wait damn near four years before trying it myself. I replaced the Demon Lizard’s hoses (which are still fine after 159 years, thank you), because this variant looks cooler than the NJR.

Evil Pegasus

For some reason, my Pegasus sheds armor like a bio zoid. This color scheme is much better than the OJR Orudios, unless you’re really PROUD TO BE AN AMURRIKAAAAAAANNNNN… (ahem) Anyway, I was mad that I had to pay $30 for one of these back in 1999, until a couple years ago, when I saw what they’re going for now.

Iron Kong

The Techno Zoids version of everyone’s favorite giant ape. The box for this is the most unwieldy thing on earth—very wide and flat. I’m sure that didn’t help matters when these were still on toy department shelves.

Strike ’Zilla

I got this when it came out, way back in 1994! Known as Arosaurer (like Allosaurus, I guess) in almost every other release.
