The sticker sheet had a ton of stickers with black print… that were to go on a black zoid! Luckily, I had substitute stickers to apply.

This wasn’t an official Hasbro release in the US (though a few people have ultra-rare prototypes), but did make its way to the New Pacific Release. I ordered mine from the Philippines. I stole one of the gunner seats for my Helcat custom, but it’s otherwise complete. The tail mechanism is quite clever, with a (cont’d)

One year later, and I’m finally finished. All the time I was putting off doing stickers, I was also bothered by the ham-fisted panel lining job this poor guy got. My previous gold and silver markers were a piece of crap, so I redid the teeth and hydraulics too. Either this project was cursed, or (cont’d)

In celebration of Toys R Us Japan’s 15th anniversary (October 2006), Tomy released an entirely clear Gojulas! The gearbox, battery covers and even the light are all clear. Best of all, I get another clear pilot, which means another mini-micronaut! I wish the original Z-point giveaways (don’t call ’em crystal!) were this complete in their (cont’d)

This is the only ZED I have, because 1) they were overpriced, and 2) it’s a Dark Horn. I managed to find this one for cheap on YJ, but after all the middleman markups it came to about retail. Damn. This one’s a windup, so at least it didn’t cost over 6000 yen (about a (cont’d)

King of Flexible Mobile/metal action/ka-dou-ou was a (tragically) short-lived 1/100 scale offshoot with die cast metal parts and super articulation.

A cute mini-me of Shieldy, now in Blox form! This was a birthday present from WIKD, much appreciated! As you can see, painting will be required for maximum coolness. There were some stickers meant to go over the fangs, but that doesn’t seem like as good as painting, so I’ll just hold out.

One of the highly sought-after mini pullback zoids. I’ve wanted a super deformed Molga for a while. I got two of these in an auction. They were a steal because the motors were busted. My friend calls these “silly deformed”, because they are. This one and the Glidoler are a lot easier to find than (cont’d)

I got the Glidoler off Yahoo Japan (thanks to Celga) for very few yen. I don’t even think I had to pay the “shipping within Japan” fee, because it was so small. See also: Dino Comics.

Flexible hybrid cannons! I love my little mini tank-liger. I really need to get some pics of the regular KoFM liger, don’t I…

Too bad this line died so quickly and so hard, because this guy is actually pretty cool. It would have been nice to see other zoids done in this style, or even a Storm Unit for the Führer here, but oh well. It does have the one shortcoming of super-articulated figures: the more points of (cont’d)

After seeing these strange pilots in an auction, I wanted to see what was underneath the chrome of my own Robo Strux pilots. Along the way I discovered that a little bit of acetone (nail polish remover) can make a gold pilot silver (pic #1). A lot more plus some scrubbing will strip the chrome (cont’d)

This was one of the hero rides from Genesis. Underneath the panda armor lies Bear Fighter’s frame. The weapons have Blox-sized pegs, and you can mount Blox weapons on the shoulders. Best of all, it’s an oddly cute kit.

OK I’m completely in love with this kit, and I never used to even care about Shieldies. Thanks, Kotobukiya! The first HMM Shieldy was nice enough, but the color scheme on this one brings out a lot more detail, and has nicer contrast. Plus, gigantic cannons—always a plus! I think this one took about 16-18 (cont’d)

Another HMM build review/tips guide! Today we ask: should you glue some parts, even though it’s a “snap together” kit? The answer will surprise you. (The answer is “yes”.)

Bear Fighter was previously a “white box” limited (the crappier the box, the rarer the prize), until this surprise Hasbro release. They assigned an arbitrary number, so as not to interfere with future NJR kits’ numbers. Apart from the orange canopy, the colors are identical to the (hella rare) OJR version. After noticing all the (cont’d)

I think the Cosmic Builder stuff came out in the mid 90s. They “borrowed” some zoid elements, as seen above. The top half of a whitehead cockpit could be found attached to various bits, and they also remodeled the famous pilot. I like him, in a 40s space opera kind of way.

I don’t know much about these. I think they came out late 2004. I ended up using some on my Decalto Dragon. Toy-Wave still has them for pretty cheap, so I got a ton.

These were originally part of Buster Eagle before being sold separately here. I got a few, because Toy-Wave had them for 50 cents each, and one day I hope to articulate something.

This looks like an enlarged knockoff of a Starrior (Runabout), but is battery operated, and also has a weird “plane” mode. Any info on this thing would be sweet, as I know nothing.
