In celebration of Toys R Us Japan’s 15th anniversary (October 2006), Tomy released an entirely clear Gojulas! The gearbox, battery covers and even the light are all clear. Best of all, I get another clear pilot, which means another mini-micronaut! I wish the original Z-point giveaways (don’t call ’em crystal!) were this complete in their clearness. Proper pics to come (someday) are finally here. Last three are keychain LED-enhanced!
Recently I discovered a set of stickers for giving Zakus shiny mono eyes. Turns out they also make good raptor eyes. To add to the effect, I drilled a hole in the head, and put a piece of fiber optic inside, so light could shine through. Another quick and dirty mod is to use the tip of a mechanical pencil for the gun barrel in the mouth.
TakaraTomy commemorated the 10th anniversary of the anime by releasing more anime-accurate versions of Ban/Van’s Shield Liger, and this hella sweet Kong belonging to Schwarz/Schubaltz.
Making my own swap was not enough, once I saw the clear green motor and black inner frame. I also finally found a semi-good deal on ebay (although everytime someone buys one, the NEXT one he lists costs $10 more to ship).
And you know what that means: time to hamhand everything to pieces while trying to disassemble them for “safe” packing. Ha! This year’s victim: a damn Kong.
So those painted shoulder pieces—when you put them on, they stay put on! Ironically, I was being extra careful with this one, since I got a mild stress fracture on the other side trying to pry it apart. After much gentle prying, this one came undone too fast for my hamhands to react, and then…
Interestingly enough, they JUST announced a HMM Karl-Kong. It’s almost glorious enough to make me forget about the horrible experience I had with the first HMM Kong. Almost. If there is some kind of announcement of improving the problems of the first one (like they did with the Geno Saurer variants), I may have to start saving. Until then…
Remember when I built a HMM Berserk Führer? Wasn’t that fun? Yeah, I still don’t have pics or a review up.
Back when Zoidfans was THE place to shoot the breeze, a bunch of us got together and made a custom order to Leoshop. There was a run of the black chrome shown here, and also a blue chrome one, which I passed on. Black chrome is hard to photograph, so it’s taken a while to get good pics (4 years!?). The last three were done in my apartment with a long exposure, to show the weird purpleness that “black” chrome really is.
This is the limited “Commander” version of the Bio Raptor, which was easier to obtain than the regular version, and only slightly different in color (WORST LIMITED EVAR). As you can see by the comparison pics, this is a wee fella. I kind of want a whole army of them.
I got this off the Yahoo Japans, mainly because it was the cheapest way to get an OJR smoke colored canopy (got it for 1000 yen). Turns out it’s a very sweet repaint here. Good detailing, though oddly the dood didn’t trim the stickers (it doesn’t hurt the model any).
For some reason, my Pegasus sheds armor like a bio zoid. This color scheme is much better than the OJR Orudios, unless you’re really PROUD TO BE AN AMURRIKAAAAAAANNNNN… (ahem) Anyway, I was mad that I had to pay $30 for one of these back in 1999, until a couple years ago, when I saw what they’re going for now.
Finally got me mitts on one of these guys. My only beef is the lack of clear eye pieces. They went the lazy route and just painted them.
One year later, and I’m finally finished. All the time I was putting off doing stickers, I was also bothered by the ham-fisted panel lining job this poor guy got. My previous gold and silver markers were a piece of crap, so I redid the teeth and hydraulics too. Either this project was cursed, or HMM kits really don’t stand up do disassembly, because I broke three pieces AND lost one. I replaced the lost one (a cap-like piece that holds the shoulder armor on) with a leftover Armored Core weapon. Just what the crap it’s supposed to be, I don’t know.
Best HMM ever! More to come… someday…
Yeah, so I pull this guy out of storage for display in my new place and… dang. Armor flew off just from looking at it, the rubber ammo belt broke clean off, all the joints were suddenly super loose, a good heapin’ helpin’ of ETC… Screw this kit, screw it hard.
Is it sacrilege that I like the Neoblox Gojulas more than the model kit one, especially this MK-II? The Neo seems a lot less stiff and clunky. The box seems to show an NJR orange cockpit, but the actual kit is OJR smoke. Maybe it’s the “glow” effect?
