Abandoned ideas (2003–05)

Being abandoned swap ideas, all I have are the crappiest pics imaginable. Actually, 6–14 aren’t totally abandoned. I’m hoping that posting these horrible ancient pictures of awesome swaps will shame me into taking better pictures. Seriously, my phone has a better camera than the one that took these.

1: A Merda with a Seismosaurus gunner seat for a head. I ended up using the gunner seat for the Helcat MK-II custom.

2–3: A very black Geno Breaker. I painted some extra Breaker parts I had, and put them on a Geno Saurer I used to have (I sold it before I got around to taking any pics of it).

4–5: Techno Zoids Kong and Deadly Kong. It wasn’t as cool as I hoped.

6–8: NJR frame plus PK armor plus Techno Zoid’s motor equals a very very red Kong.

9–11: Take the above, and use Yeti armor instead, and you get… Rescue Kong!

12–14: This was my favorite until Karl’s Type. NJR armor plus PK frame equals a very dark Kong. All the different gunmetal shades here are pretty sweet. If I had an OJR MK-II (which had truly black armor), I could combine it with the Schubaltz inner frame (also truly black) and make a “none more black” one that would be impossible to photograph.

HMM-013 Gun Sniper (Build Review)

This was a fun build, with very few tough parts (which weren’t even that tough). The main thing with these smaller kits is having to do a lot more painting than with large kits, if you want that “looks just like the box!” style. I think Kotobukiya’s getting better at engineering these things, because there were not as many parts that needed gluing to keep the kit stable.

Head (gluing):

This connection is pretty loose, but be careful not to get glue on the front “lens” part.
Head (painting):

Sure is a lot of white here. The jaw/seat pieces should probably have just been molded in another color, since only the teeth are meant to be white. The “ear” pieces need a little touching up too.
Does anyone have a ruler?

I could have saved an hour or so scrambling to find a ruler if I only knew that this diagram in the instructions was actual size. Well, now YOU know!
I haven’t figured this one out yet:

There needs to be some kind of gluing done here, because A10 and A7 pop out when trying to do some poses.
Paint me:

I’m going to be compelled to paint this gold, as I do with all such bits.
Not sure about this:

Gluing may be needed here (they pop off), but that could hinder future disassembly.
Definitely glue here:

You have to pull on that rocket to extend it, and it just pops off without glue.
Beware:

This piece (from the tail) is incredibly thin. It’s a miracle I didn’t break it just by looking at it.
Upper arms:

These are identical, until you put the cap on the appropriate side. Clever!
Paint me too:

Again with the silver/gold. At least there weren’t too many of these to do.
A-and paint us too, while you’re at it:

This Gundam Marker (GM09 “Gundam Eye Green”) works really well for all those pieces that need to be done green. Last pic: I thought I’d try an aurora sticker for the scope, but I’m not sure about it.
Racing stripes:

The note in the first pic about sticker #15 (a solid block of red) roughly translates to “have fun cutting them out freestyle, suckas!”

2008-03: Bio Raptor Commander Improvements

Recently I discovered a set of stickers for giving Zakus shiny mono eyes. Turns out they also make good raptor eyes. To add to the effect, I drilled a hole in the head, and put a piece of fiber optic inside, so light could shine through. Another quick and dirty mod is to use the tip of a mechanical pencil for the gun barrel in the mouth.

Merda/Runna/Hellrunner

1-6: An OJR Merda and a RoboStrux Runna can make an all silver runner. The leftovers make a red/blue oddity.
7-12: Throw a Zoids2 Hellrunner in the mix, and you get these two! The blue/black one almost looks like something that could have come out in the NJR (except that they wouldn’t have bothered to make a black head, with all the silver-grey ones laying around). The red cockpit is from an OJR Sinker, btw.

2002: Blue Unicorn Platoon Snipe Master (Zoids VS.)

This one came with the Japanese game Zoids VS (for Gamecube). It has lots of custom stickers, as well as two different colors of caps—blue and orange. The only problem is that half of the orange caps are discolored, due to poor mold cleaning!

RZ-057 Snipe Master

Before this was released, it was referred to as “Gun Sniper MK-II”, which made me think (and hope) they would have redone GS with decent molds this time. Instead it was a complete redesign. It comes with red or blue caps, plus matching stickers for each.

RZ-030 Gun Sniper

Released in 2000, one of the first brand new designs since the OJR days, and sadly it’s a turkey. The main problem is the poor molding, which pretty much ruins ol’ Gunsnipey. A year later, this was one of the first Hasbro releases, which meant it could be purchased right off a shelf, instead of paying an arm and a leg for shipping from overseas.

Bio Megaraptor (Glearmd/Holotech)

1-7: This is the combo I didn’t think of, but ended up being the best one.
8-14: This didn’t turn out as nice as I expected (and is a pain to photograph), but it does look good in the dark! (#14 is all glow power, no blacklight.)

Bio Megaraptor Glearmd

This was the first limited model from the Genesis line. It glows in the dark, and kind of always has a semi glow to it in light. It also comes with a small pvc figure of ~~Char Aznable~~ Zairin, the Megaraptor’s pilot and sometime bad-guy of the series.
