(Blue) Cosmozoid

aka RMZ-08 Pegasuros in the OJR. This was the last zoid I needed to complete my “whiteheads” collection. It’s a bit dopey looking, but it grew on me, and it will grow on you too. Cosmo got his own little storyline in the European comic, back in 80s times. Poor fella…

Beware: the blue plastic on this one is very brittle!

(Unnamed Mailaway)

This was an unnamed mailaway figure that I believe came out before the official release. It’s like a recolor of Terrared (OER), which itself was a version of Glidoler (OJR) with a “clamshell” head. There’s been a fella on ebay selling these—one at a time—for the past few years.

039 Raynos (Holotech)

I had to have this one sent to me from Australia, which was the holotech capital of the world, for some reason.

2005-10: Lady Redler Stardust

This was commissioned by my special lady, who wanted a pink zoid that was still boss. His (her?) name is either Lady Redler, or Redler Stardust (see #8). If you think yellow paint is hard to work with, try using pink sometime! (Maybe if I had used a white primer…)

2005: Blade Hawk (Full Metal Crash)

This is an odd bird. For its alternate mode it splits into a weapon (giant shuriken!) and armor for Murasame Liger. Since I don’t have a Murasame, I’m trying to think of customizing ideas…

2006-05: Decalto Dragon Improvements(?)

Here, I have “corrected” the odd wide stance that the front legs had (pic). I did this with much hacking and slashing. As a result, it is permanently in dragon mode, but I didn’t like deathraser/parablade in these colors anyway. Also, I replaced the blox pieces in the neck with some better matching ones from the limited translucent blox set.

BZ-014 Deantler fusion: Storchantler

This is why I got Deantler. The “official” fusion looks a bit odd, but I like having the new head on regular Storch, despite the lack-of-pilot situation it creates. (I also had no idea how to fit the blox cockpit on, so I just rested it in place for pics.)

Decalto Dragon (NJR/Genesis)

Genesis Decalto with the original’s red armor. It looks good, but I still like the white better.

In: 1st Japanese Release > Zenebas Empire

EHI-07 Reddra

OJRs are never cheap, but somehow I lucked out and found this one in a lot for a not obscene price. I wanted it for the slightly lighter-than-NJR shade of wings (either for my chromie, or to paint clear blue in attempt at a genesis custom), but I think I like them better where they belong.

Evil Pegasus

For some reason, my pegasus sheds armor like a bio zoid. This color scheme is much better than the OJR Orudios, unless you’re really PROUD TO BE AN AMURRIKAAAAAAANNNNN… (ahem) Anyway, I was mad that I had to pay $30 for one of these back in 1999, until a couple years ago, when I saw what they’re going for now. If you want one, remember: you really only need ONE of your kidneys…

EZ-068 Storch

This is a nice reissue, but I didn’t fully appreciate it until building it myself. The movement and the wing mechanism are clever, and I love the feathery appearance (which makes for nice panel-lining). My only complaint is the gap in the cockpit, where it seems like there should be a window. The bottom part is a modified “clamshell” piece, and a clear piece and almost fit there, so maybe with some cutting I can get it to work. I wonder if Tomy originally planned something there, but had to cancel it at the last minute because of budget limits.

GB-005 Bio Ptera

I was interested in Bio Ptera since it came out (clear blue!), but didn’t want to pay $20 (plus shipping!) for such a tiny model. Enter ebay user akitoys, with their $6.50 buy it now. Last four pics show the display stand I stole from a Marvel Legends figure, because it allows for much better flight poses.

Gilvader/Gildragon

I’ve been wanting to do this swap ever since the dawn of time—aka, when that other guy did it. It needed a bit more contrast, so I kept some of the silver bits instead of doing a full swap.

GRZ-002 Gil Vader

Box damage, half price, woot! That and finally being able to do the awesome swap would have been good news enough, but it turns out the original color scheme is pretty wicked. I never knew the purple parts had a metallic flake finish. A-and the clear red is beautiful.

GZ-006 Zabat

Zabat was originally introduced in the NJR, but the colors didn’t grab me like these do. Zabat’s not motorized, but there’s a fussy button you can press to flap the wings, and there is a cruise missile with a pullback motor to deploy. There are two different heads you can use: one that is more bat-like, for automated drone mode, and one that can fit a pilot, which I prefer. There is also a handy stand for hanging upside down when not in use (take pilot out first, for his sake!).

One day I will replace the cruise missile with a big fat bomb from a G1 Ramjet, but since that requires sawing and thus effort, it may be a while.

GZ-017 Decalto Dragon

Decalto Dragon, the Genesis recolor/repackage of Deathraser/Parablade. I didn’t like the orginal’s colors that much, but these new ones really work, since they seemed to have the dragon mode in mind when they picked them. (As such, the separate kits don’t look so hot, but that’s ok.)

GZ-018 Gildragon

The reissue no one thought would happen. The stickers were a lot higher quality than usual—very thin and nicely trimmed. That didn’t stop me from messing up the cockpit one TWICE, though. Check out my cat Dora hanging out on Gildy’s shelf.

Last 4 pics: While most people prefer the original Gilvader’s colors and horns, I really like the white/blue. Just in case anyone hasn’t seen Gildy with the old horns, here ya go.

Rado

This is identical to the OER Zark. Since I don’t have a box for this one, the only way I can be sure I have a Rado, is that I got it in a lot with a bunch of other Robostruxes, back when OERs were not widely available outside of Europe (no ebay in 1995).

In: 80s/90s Misc Releases > Zoids2

Red Wing

I’m not sure why they didn’t make the body armor chrome too, but oh well. I love the orange wings on this one. Though the box shows black under-parts, and my model has them, the standard issue was grey. I gave away my gray parts, thinking I had spares, so for these pics I raided the under-bits off an NJR Redler. (Some Redwings did have black parts, but those were factory escapees and never officially released.)

Redler

This Redler is another custom order. The orange eyes are from a Zoids2 Red Wing… just because.

RMZ-02 Glidoler

MIB! See OAR bird for a built one.

In: 2nd Worldwide Release > Helic Republic

RZ-029 Storm Sworder

One of the early “brand new” designs of the NJR. Very sleek and the jet turbines everywhere are a nice touch.

Storm Sworder Jet

The sticker sheet had a ton of stickers with black print… that were to go on a black zoid! Luckily, I had substitute stickers to apply.

Unnamed bird type

Somehow in all these years I never managed to get a loose copy of this one until very recently (I had that RS one, minus a head, but I didn’t know that was something different).

In: 2000s Misc Releases > Monthly Zoids Graphics

Vol. 08 Puterasu

So far, this one’s staying MIB until I can make more shelf room. I did take out the bonus “present” for this set, though. It’s the other sprue from Remodel Set No. 1!

Yuji Kaida #11 Salamander Bombvern

You wouldn’t think these colors would work, but they do! I thought the enormous cannons (CP-10) were kind of silly, so I tried some alternatives (the original Saly missile launchers, and CP-09).

Zoicoro: Glidoler

I got the Glidoler off Yahoo Japan (thanks to Celga) for very few yen. I don’t even think I had to pay the “shipping within Japan” fee, because it was so small. See also: Dino Comics.
