TakaraTomy commemorated the 10th anniversary of the anime by releasing more anime-accurate versions of Ban/Van’s Shield Liger, and this hella sweet Kong belonging to Schwarz/Schubaltz.
Making my own swap was not enough, once I saw the clear green motor and black inner frame. I also finally found a semi-good deal on ebay (although everytime someone buys one, the NEXT one he lists costs $10 more to ship).
This was the first limited model from the Genesis line. It glows in the dark, and kind of always has a semi glow to it in light. It also comes with a small pvc figure of Char Aznable Zairin, the Megaraptor’s pilot and sometime bad-guy of the series.

One of them was the Iron Kong of a certain Germanic colonel who likes gatling guns. The upside: a clear green gearbox, and inclusion of the super ultra mega rare CP-A1 (a sprue of connector parts that lets you affix CPs to Zoids they were not meant for). The downside: too flippin’ expensive, and I don’t like how high the gatling mount sits (neither of which will stop me from trying to get one).
Since I’ve had a PK for a while, I thought I’d try to make my own, via the magic of plastic swapping. I also had a spare hacked CP-03 I didn’t feel guilty about hacking up, since it was already in bad shape, so I thought I’d take a stab at a slightly better gun mount (though still pretty half-assed.)
Gashapon set from around 2000. If you were as bad at painting the tiny pilots as I was, this set was your only hope. Too bad it’s so flippin’ rare. The only downside: no sitting Van and Fiona figures (but they were in one of the “Battle Collection” mini sets that came out later).
I swapped out the white caps for black ones, and also painted the feet black, to give it more contrast. The figure is prepainted and came from a gashapon set I got off Yahoo Japan.
This is one of the odder zoids out there. It’s a pillbug that pulls two trailers, for carrying other zoids, or spare parts, or smeat. The armor contracts as it rolls, and the radar dish spins. The kit comes with a sprue of anime characers, but you have to paint them yourself. Or get the gashapon figure set!
